Adessa's Travels: La Mesilla, New Mexico
We'll kick off our "Adessa Travelogue" with one of our favorite spots in the world... La Mesilla, New Mexico. La Mesilla is a little old town just southwest of Las Cruces and has long been a stopover for us between Texas and home. Great restaurants, shopping (there's a little children's store downtown called Ninos del Cielo where several of your toys came from), parks, and things to do most nights like movies in the square, concerts, and farmers markets. Our most recent visit here was in October 2008, but these pictures are all from August (we stopped there on our way out to Austin, TX). Here we are pictured in the town square with San Albino Basilica Church in the background.
You walked Bella through the grass in the square. We were wearing shorts as it was a warm evening... and it wasn't long before we remembered that late summer in La Mesilla is high time for mosquitoes, especially in the cooler evenings. Yikes. We both took quite a few bites before our legs before we decided it was best to stay out of the grass.
We went to dinner at Lorenzo's a wonderful Italian restaurant we've been to many times over the years. Look at the beautiful flowers they had for us just outside the restaurant.
We enjoyed dinner on the patio, including a serenade by a nice man on the accordion (he played "Rock-A-Bye Baby" in your honor, Addie). One thing you forget about accordions... they are loud when they're right next to you... and you were understandably a bit shy about this strange man dancing his way up to you to play your song.
Looking at these pictures and videos really brings me back to that place, Adessa. I hope we can visit there again soon.
