A is for Adessa
Adessa caught in a serious, reflective moment. |
A is for Adessa -- my daughter's name.
The name Adessa comes from the Italian word "adesso," which means "now." The implicit meaning: "live in the moment" or "seize the day." (The name Carpe Diem would be a little unwieldy, wouldn't it?)
Good words to live by.
I love the name Adessa because it fits her perfectly: unique, elegant, memorable. Exotic sounding, yet classic, almost like you heard it before (though few have before meeting her -- there aren't many Adessas out there). If you read it, there's no mystery in how to pronounce it. If you had to guess at the spelling, you'd probably be right.
A name means a lot in this life -- it's true. This recent article cites a study claiming that a poorly chosen baby name can lead to a lifetime of problems. Yikes. (Maybe "Jermajesty" isn't such a great choice for a baby name after all?)
So, Adessa, may you live up to the meaning of your name. May you live in the moment, no matter what comes -- whether in happiness or difficulty -- and may God bless you in each of those moments.
