Happy Birthday, Adessa
Happy birthday to you, Adessa. Today marks six years for you. Hard to believe it.
Wherever you are, I pray you are well. And I want you to know that it's not just me praying for you - for the last two years plus, you have had someone else faithfully praying for you. You met her the first time the same night I met her, on a summer Friday night July 30, 2010. You and I were invited to a party the home of dear friends from church, Terry and Traci Garmon. You had a blast playing with their daughter, Annika (she's just a little older than you) and many other of our friends were there. And then Andrea walked in.
I still remember vividly the first time I saw her. Terry introduced her to you and me and we all sat at their kitchen table and played games. You sat in my lap, Andrea sat directly across from us, and we just had a wonderful time. Though Andrea caught my eye right away, it's fair to say I had now clue just how the Lord was going to work in our lives and bring us together within a couple of months.
It was during this time that you were taken away and the few things that made sense in our circumstances turned into an absurd tragedy. This was soon to be a time of painful chaos and I'm sorry to say that you got swept up in it, Adessa. There are still no satisfactory answers to the question of why any of that happened.
I also want you to know that God is faithful in all circumstances and what He has done in bringing Andrea and me together is a testament to this. Our wedding last week was beautiful and moving. We have been blessed to see our families unite in genuine love for one another. And you have a much larger family now, Adessa: grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, a brother, and a mother who all adore you and pray constantly for you.
For Andrea and me, that prayer has been the same for the past two plus years together:
"Lord, we pray for Adessa, that You would bless her, that You would protect her, and that You would bring her back soon."
We pray that every day and will pray it every day until you are reunited with us. We long for that day and believe we will see its coming. You are loved more than you know by hundreds of friends and family who can't wait to see you again.
Happy Birthday, Adessa, and God bless you in every way today.
