On This Day, Eleven Years Ago
Dear Adessa, You arrived on this day, eleven years ago - and I can hardly believe it. It seems impossible that it's been that long. You arrived before the iPhone and before President Obama. In some ways, it feels like a completely different world, but in some ways, nothing has changed. I love looking at photos of you, of old photos of us together, and being immersed in those memories so deeply that it feels like it's right here, right now. In some ways, Loma Linda, California on the morning of January 4, 2007 seems so close. It's almost as if I could set my alarm and wake up tomorrow and drive to the hospital, and you'd be there. I treasure those memories like nothing else. They're the bridge back to that world that in some ways is gone but in others is still right here. My heart aches missing you today.
