You're Still With Me

Today is July 4 and while I always associate the date with the Independence Day holiday, the date also marks Adessa's "half-birthday" - exactly half a year from her birthday of January 4. As any parent will tell you, when our children are little, those half-birthdays mean a lot - there's tremendous pride in a child telling you she is now "six-and-a-HALF" instead of just six. So this day is bittersweet in celebrating our country's birth with family and friends but at the same time aching over Adessa's absence.

I wrote this song for her and every word is painfully honest yet brightly hopeful. I do still believe we will be reunited and that God will honor the thousands of prayers offered to that end. It is hard to imagine what that will look like or to have the patience to wait for it, but I believe it. Until then, Adessa, you'll always have my heart.
